POPULOUS EMEA

I returned to London in January 2019 to commence a job with Populous London after being contacted while I was on my way back to Australia. Having had worked in stadium architecture most recently, I saw this as an opportunity to further my work experience with a reputable company that I admired.

I was part of the team procured to work on the Madison Square Garden Sphere located in Greater London from pre-planning approval and began to work with the MEP team to efficiently co-ordinate with multiple subconsultants, a challenge considering the complex geometry of the building.

Upon on completion of the more complex MEP items I moved on to design, planning and coordination of the upper 11 levels. More specifically this involved resolution and optimisation of the upper plant rooms- such as access issues, structure, MEP coordination, rigging coordination with overlay considerations and material specification.

At this point, I was obliged to return home for family reasons with potential for further employment at the end of my 6 month fixed term. I then transferred offices to Brisbane through Populous.

POPULOUS APAC

After I transferred from Populous London, I worked on the Kai Tak Indoor Sports Centre (KTSP), one of four major developments on the 13 hectare site.

I initially co-led MEP Coordination and was sent to Hong Kong as a company representative. The visit involved continual workshops with the consultants across the board of service engineering and operations before moving on to lead the doors coordination for the mixed-use sports/retail complex.

Although I had done two door packages prior, this project presented new complexities and challenges. It was also the largest door schedule, requiring uncompromised attention to detail throughout the entire process.

After a successful completion, I was given the opportunity to learn bowl design on ISC. This experience provided an invaluable learning opportunity and I eventually transitioned into a full time member of the bowl team, taking ownership of the bowl for the remaining few months of the project.

I concluded my time at Populous as the structural lead of CMUA, home of the Christchurch Crusaders Rugby Team.
